The Gift of the Magi is a short story written by O. Henry, but this particular edition of the book is an illustrated version of the story with illustrations by Robert Collier. The story follows a young couple, Jim and Della, who are deeply in love but struggling financially. As Christmas approaches, they both want to give each other a special gift but have very little money to do so. Della decides to sell her long, beautiful hair to a wig maker in order to buy Jim a chain for his prized pocket watch, while Jim sells his watch to buy Della a set of combs for her hair. On Christmas day, they exchange their gifts only to realize the sacrifices they made for each other. The story is a heartwarming tale of love and selflessness, with Collier's illustrations adding an extra layer of charm to the classic tale.THIS 78 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: Secret of the Ages, by Robert Collier.
