This book is part of a two-volume set. Volume One tells the story of two young South Texas kids, David Oscar (Rabenaldt) Kelly and Joyce Kathleen (Acker) Kelly, and how they found each other early in their lives, through triumphs and tragedies. David's early struggles include losing his father at only three years old, and the constant abuse he suffered from his mother as she battled alcoholism and other illnesses. These caused him everlasting scars that would eventually drive him to enlist in the military while he was still a child of 16. Joyce, who as a young child was extremely shy, causing her to not be socially accepted by other children, endured the strain of World War II, as her family was being watched by the US government because of their German heritage. And in order to tell the whole story of David and Joyce, we must start at the beginning, with their ancestors who migrated to America and found their way to Texas. Many sought to escape the abuse of their own government in Germany, and suffered the tragedies of losing family members, while they strived to build new lives in a new world for themselves and their families.
