Ikkyū Sōjun (1394-1481), moine Rinzai japonais, poète, calligraphe et abbé malgré lui du grand monastère de Daitoku-ji, est l'une des figures les plus singulières de l'histoire spirituelle mondiale. Fils officieux de l'empereur Go-Komatsu, élevé dans les monastères dès son plus jeune âge, éveillé à vingt-six ans au cri d'un corbeau sur le lac Biwa, il refusa le sceau officiel de son maître et choisit de vivre aux marges, parmi les pauvres, les prostituées et les poètes errants, tout en gardant une rigueur méditative intacte jusqu'à son dernier souffle.
