Qu'est-ce qu'un organisme vivant, au juste ? Une machine biochimique extrêmement complexe, comme nous l'a enseigné la biologie du XXe siècle, ou bien quelque chose de plus: une structure de sens, un système informationnel capable de conserver sa forme, son identité et sa finalité au fil du temps ? La biologie des champs naît de cette question radicale et accompagne le lecteur dans un voyage qui traverse la science, la philosophie et les nouvelles frontières de la pensée biologique.
Au cours des dernières décennies, les avancées de la génétique moléculaire et de la biochimie ont donné lieu à des résultats extraordinaires, mais elles ont également mis en évidence les limites d'un paradigme purement réductionniste. Expliquer la vie comme la somme de réactions chimiques ou comme la simple exécution d'un code génétique ne suffit plus à rendre compte de phénomènes fondamentaux: la forme, la cohérence de l'organisme, l'auto-organisation, la capacité d'adaptation créative et, en dernière analyse, la signification biologique.
Cet ouvrage propose un changement de perspective: considérer les organismes comme des structures informationnelles stabilisées, soutenues par des champs de cohérence qui précèdent et organisent les différentes parties matérielles. Il ne s'agit pas d'une fuite dans le vague ou dans le symbolique, mais d'une tentative rigoureuse d'intégrer des contributions issues de la physique des systèmes complexes, de la biologie théorique, des neurosciences et d'une relecture critique des traditions vitalistes à la lumière des connaissances contemporaines.
De la crise du paradigme biochimique classique au problème non résolu de la forme en biologie évolutive, cet ouvrage montre comment la vie peut être comprise plus efficacement si on la conçoit comme un u un phénomène de cohérence non locale, dans lequel le tout n'est pas le résultat des parties, mais leur condition de possibilité. Dans cette perspective, les champs biologiques ne sont pas des métaphores évocatrices, mais des outils conceptuels permettant de décrire comment l'information prend corps, comment l'énergie se transforme en organisation et comment l'organisme conserve son identité dynamique.
Cette vision a également de profondes implications sur la manière dont nous concevons la santé et la maladie. La santé apparaît comme un état de cohérence globale, tandis que la pathologie se présente comme une fragmentation du champ, une perte d'harmonie informationnelle avant même d'être une défaillance mécanique. Dans le même temps, la vie est réinterprétée comme un processus cognitif diffus: chaque organisme, par le simple fait d'exister, connaît, évalue et répond au monde.
