This study focuses primarily on the in vitro evaluation of the antioxidant activities of the leaves of Combretum aculeatum vent., a sub-Saharan plant also known as goat peanut in some regions, various parts of which are already used in traditional medicine as diuretics, wound healers, purgatives, or anti-infectives, to name just a few of its properties. The methodology of this research project initially involved preparing various leaf extracts using specific extraction solvents. Next, to evaluate their antioxidant properties through laboratory analyses, following very specific analytical protocols, and finally, to perform a statistical comparison of the results obtained, using ascorbic acid (vitamin C) as a reference. The results showed that the various extracts possess very satisfactory antioxidant properties and provide insights into the molecules believed to be responsible for these activities. Further studies would be essential to truly evaluate these properties from an in vivo perspective, and why not consider developing them as dietary supplements?
