Ergonomics in dentistry focuses on designing the dental workspace, tools and working postures to fit the dentist and dental team rather than forcing the body to adapt to poor conditions. The goal is to reduce physical strain, prevent musco skeletal disorders (such as neck, back and shoulder pain) and improve efficiency and comfort during dental procedures. Proper seating, correct patient positioning, adequate lightning and the use of ergonomically designed instruments help maintain neutral posture, minimize fatigue and enhance long term professional health and productivity. As a public health dentist, I am involved in community needs assessment, epidemiological surveys, school dental health programs, tobacco cessation initiatives and oral health awareness campaigns. My role also includes advocating for equitable oral healthcare services and addressing social determinants that influence oral health outcomes. My ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between clinical dentistry and public health to create sustainable improvements in population oral health.
