Among the thirteen Matras composed by Baba Sri Chand, the first one holds the greatest significance. It is memorized and recited daily by Udāsī saints and devotees. Though concise, it carries profound meaning and captures the essence of all his teachings.
The opening verses suggest that Sri Chand was destined for a life of renunciation and was guided by his Satguru to engage with the worldly realm for a higher purpose. The central portion of the Matra elaborates on this divine guidance and the Udāsī philosophy, while the concluding section offers a reflective summary for the reader.
BABA Sri Chand's writings reflect a deep concern for national awakening, social reform, and the upliftment of rural life. His Matra Shastra provides insights into resolving many issues relevant even today. It simplifies complex spiritual concepts, making them accessible to ordinary people so that they may attain true wisdom, experience lasting peace, and live a fulfilled human life.
