Dermatology, explained from the ground up. This book covers how skin, hair, and nails are built, what goes wrong with them, and how doctors diagnose and treat the results. No science background required.
The skin covers about two square meters and makes up roughly 15 percent of body weight, and it replaces most of its surface every month. Ten chapters run in order. The first three build the foundation in structure, cell biology, and immune defense. Chapter 4 covers method. The rest work through the disorders people actually walk into a clinic with. Skin, hair, and nails, chapter by chapter:

- Acne vulgaris, adult hormonal breakouts, rosacea subtypes, and hidradenitis suppurativa, then eczema, psoriasis, and contact dermatitis in both its irritant and allergic forms
- Impetigo, cellulitis, tinea, candidiasis, warts, herpes simplex, scabies, and lice, closing with drug resistance in dermatologic treatment
- Androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, onychomycosis, nail pitting, paronychia, and the nail changes that signal trouble elsewhere in the body
- Retinoids, corticosteroids, lasers, chemical peels, microneedling, melanoma detection, and sun protection
