This second volume extends the framework of Volume 1 into the most technically demanding areas of chest wall practice. Drawing on three decades of operative experience, it addresses the advanced spectrum of chest wall disease - complex, reoperative, oncologic, traumatic, and reconstructive.
The opening chapters cover complex and secondary thoracic deformities, including those associated with congenital heart disease and previous cardiac surgery, together with reoperative cases. Rare entities - sternal cleft, localised chest wall protrusion, and straight back syndrome - are addressed with emphasis on surgical judgment and considered modification of operative strategy.
Subsequent sections cover chest wall tumors, defects, and trauma, including flail chest and costal cartilage injuries. Infections - from abscesses and tuberculosis to post-cardiac-surgery wound complications - are addressed alongside modern negative-pressure wound therapy. A closing section on reconstruction covers material selection and the management of extensive composite defects.
