A fantastic book from multiple perspectives. - Readers' Favourite

You are not the only couple who has ever gone to bed angry, back to back, wondering how you got here.

That is not a small thing to know. And this book will make you know it deeply.

The Couple's Counsel begins with Pete and Jane - a couple whose marriage has quietly come apart at the seams. On the nudge of Jane's mother, they find themselves at a breathtaking monastery retreat, sitting across the dinner table from two other couples they have never met, led by Pastor Tom and his wife Liz, whose own marriage has been forged through more than they let on at first.

What unfolds over the course of that retreat is not a lecture. It is not a checklist. It is something far more powerful: the slow, sometimes funny, sometimes achingly honest realisation that the things you thought were uniquely wrong with your marriage are not unique at all. And that the path forward - though it requires real work - is available to you.

At one point, the couples are handed balloons, shaving cream and a razor. One partner holds the balloon. The other lathers it up and starts to shave. What follows - three balloons bursting at different moments, covering three sets of faces in foam - delivers a lesson no chapter heading ever could: your partner should never have to walk on eggshells around you.

At another, they build a Jenga tower from blocks engraved with human quirks - the little things that make your spouse exactly who they are - and then begin removing them one by one. The structure grows more unstable with every piece that comes out. The lesson lands before anyone has to say a word.

This is how Ikenna and Ijeoma Ngene teach. Not at you. Through story. Through laughter. Through moments that sneak past your defences and settle somewhere permanent.

As you walk with Pete and Jane and the other couples through the retreat, you will explore:

- How differing expectations quietly erode even the strongest marriages - and how to surface and align them
