This book examines the question of the prospects for children affected by poverty in Switzerland. The reproduction of social positions plays a central role in this context. The concept of habitus theory, as developed by Pierre Bourdieu, serves as the theoretical basis. A lack of financial, social and cultural capital was identified amongst children from families living in poverty. Existing habitual dispositions also contribute to the disadvantage faced by these children. Taken together, these findings point to a clear limitation on the opportunities for fulfilment and future prospects of children affected by poverty. Areas of life such as education, leisure activities, housing conditions and even the children's health are affected by this. The children employ various coping strategies, which are reflected, for example, in behavioural problems. Politics, research and social work are fields that can influence society and shape it in a more child-friendly way, thereby providing support to children living in poverty.
