Mastering English as a foreign language (EFL) is a critical gateway to global communication, yet achieving proficiency remains a complex hurdle in many developing educational systems. This book offers a localized, data-driven exploration into the realities of English language teaching and learning within the high schools of Bonga town, located in the Kafa Zone of Ethiopia.Utilizing a robust mixed-methods research design that captures the voices of 120 students and their educators, this study uncovers the systemic bottlenecks stifling classroom fluency. Through a careful analysis of student questionnaires, teacher interviews, and firsthand classroom observations, the author diagnoses the root causes of low engagement. The findings shed light on critical barriers, including an over-reliance on mother-tongue translation, traditional lecture-based instruction, insufficient student motivation, and a severe lack of active speaking practice. Moving beyond mere diagnosis, this book provides actionable recommendations for systemic educational reform.
