The impetus for this book arose from the prevalence of this chronic complication of diabetes, but above all from the lack of reliable medical statistics regarding the incidence of stroke among people with diabetes, particularly within the internal medicine and neurology departments of the Point G University Hospital; This tool is intended to sound the alarm regarding the management of diabetic patients facing this common complication, which is linked to the progression of diabetes and forms part of the chronic damage to large blood vessels associated with the disease, alongside diabetic coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, high blood pressure, etc. Given the high incidence of strokes among elderly diabetics and the complexity of their management, we deemed it useful to conduct this study as a final-year thesis in internal medicine, in order to address, in part, the issue of frequency in the two departments which are the most heavily utilised at the Point G University Hospital in Bamako in the organisation of care for diabetic patients, namely the departments of internal medicine and neurology.
