From a medical point of view, acne begins with the formation of hardened sebum, or the oily substance that is secreted into the skin through the sebaceous glands. This spreads with the bacteria that infect the acne, which in turn touches the immune system to release white blood cells that block the attack of the bacteria. When this happens, white blood cells and dead bacteria accumulate in the hair follicles mixed with skin debris and dead skin particles, which then ignite the lesions.
