The purpose of this study is to detect Salmonella and coagulase-positive staphylococci and to investigate the antibiotic resistance of these two pathogenic bacteria isolated at the Regional Public Health Laboratory in Zarzis (Tunisia) from food products, food surface samples, and stool cultures during routine inspections. Eighteen strains belonging to the genus Salmonella, isolated from food of animal origin and fecal cultures, and two strains of coagulase-positive staphylococci, isolated from food products, were subjected to antibiotic susceptibility testing. The results showed that all Salmonella strains were resistant to at least two antibiotics, and 38.88% were resistant to more than five antibiotics. Meanwhile, both coagulase-positive Staphylococcus strains were resistant to at least one antibiotic.
