Plant-based products are being used for medicinal and therapeutic purposes since the dawn of history. The use of plants as medicines has involved the isolation of active compounds. Isolation and characterization of pharmacologically active compounds from medicinal plants is continuing even today. All the plants have mutualisitic internal endophytic fungi or bacteria without causing any apparent symptoms in the host. The present study was aimed for isolation and identification of endophytic bacteria from the leaves of Tamarindus indica and screened them for biologically active secondary metabolites with antibacterial activity.
