90 comics. 90 things neurotypicals say, and what they actually mean.

We should get lunch sometime! A woman at our church said that to my wife every time she saw her. Once a month. For years. I told my wife to take her up on it. My wife laughed and said it meant goodbye. She was right.

I'm autistic. I take words at their meaning. Neurotypicals say one thing and mean another, and the listener is supposed to know the difference. Nobody told me there was a difference, so I started writing the differences down. Then I drew them.

Every comic is two panels. Left: the sentence, as it happened. Right: the same picture with one thing changed, and what they actually meant. Sounds fun! means I am not coming. I'll let you go means I would like to get off the phone. No rush means some rush. I'm the guy in the headset with the clipboard, translating.

This is one autistic guy's translation. It is for autistic adults who take people at their word, and for the people who love them, who would like to laugh and finally understand what was meant. Parents of autistic kids have told me the comics work for them too.

Neurotypicals and neurodivergents speak two languages. This is the translation guide. The gap between the two is the funniest thing I know.
