What Freja finds instead is a waterlogged weather logbook kept in a coffee tin by Henrik's door - thirty years of wind, tide, and temperature, recorded in a fisherman's careful hand. Buried inside it is a single entry that doesn't match the official record. And behind that discrepancy is r vig's harbour board: a five-person committee with no legal authority and total control over who can earn a living on the island - for decades, the island's quiet court of last resort for the things no one wanted the mainland to know about.
No one on r vig is lying, exactly. They're only agreeing, without ever discussing it, on the version of events that lets the island keep functioning. As Freja follows the thread from a locked cottage to a fishing cooperative's altered quota books to a dock at the edge of the harbour, she learns that the truth here was never hidden. It was simply never asked about - and that the price of asking may be higher than she's prepared to pay.
