Maggie, a bi-racial teen, exiled in California tells us her story. Vayter is the name of the mythical realm Maggie projects herself into, when life on Earth becomes unbearable. She becomes friends with Thitherniv, a color changing dragon, who sometimes scares himself. Her other best friend is a mythical creature called a Waffersnaff, named Tweedmouth, who is a food scavenger and culinary master with a very high opinion of himself. The only thing they have in common is that they don't fit in.
Vayter is yet another book about a miserable teen who finds escape. There are so many of these stories that you would think people would get the hint and change the system. When change is not possible, mocking becomes necessary. Vayter is about finding home, finding strength, and being resilient, with large breaks for outright silliness.
This is a romance free, LGBTQ+ friendly tale.
