Volpone is a satirical play written by Ben Jonson in the early 17th century. The play takes place in Venice and follows the story of Volpone, a wealthy and cunning man who pretends to be on his deathbed in order to trick his greedy acquaintances into giving him gifts and money. Along with his clever servant Mosca, Volpone manages to deceive a number of characters, including a lawyer, a merchant, and a wealthy nobleman. However, their plans begin to unravel as the characters become suspicious of each other and the truth about Volpone's supposed illness is revealed. The play explores themes of greed, deception, and the corrupt nature of society. It is considered to be one of Jonson's greatest works and a classic of English literature.A Hold thee, Mosca, Take of my hand; thou strik'st on truth, in all: And they are enuious, terme thee Parasite. Call forth my Dwarfe, my Eunuch, and my Foole, And let them make me sport. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
