Hidden Motives: Life has become more perilous in the town where Leslie and Sam live. For one thing, people are being murdered. Horribly so, and the police are baffled. To add to the confusion, the local Mayoral elections are due, but all is not well even there. There are accusations of infidelity and sabotage, but worse is to follow. One of the candidates goes berserk and tries to kill Leslie, and it's only her vampire strength that saves her from being added to the growing list of the town's murdered. Why would anyone want to do such a weird thing? The attacker, despite being caught in the very act, denies everything, and appears to be sincere. Determined to find out some answers, Leslie and Sam, along with the ubiquitous Frank the dog, set out on a journey to discover the author of all the local mayhem. The surprising answer lies with an old enemy, and Leslie has to take an unprecedented step in order to keep herself, and her friends, alive.
Sings the Morning: Leslie and Sam have decided finally to set up house together. Unfortunately, they can't agree on what would be best. And besides, they don't have any money. So, they decide to try to find some on a world that has an abundance of it in the form of gold and gems. While there, they stumble across an extraordinary alien called Sings the Morning who has been badly beaten. They help her and, for their reward, find themselves fleeing from an army of zombies. Having escaped being torn apart, they return to Earth with their alien companion and spend many nerve wracking days hiding their visitor from the prying public who tend to panic about such things as aliens and vampires. To compound her insecurity, Leslie meets an old school enemy, Simone, who now works as an investigative reporter - the most dangerous of all professions for a vampire endeavouring to hide her secret identity, let alone trying to harbour an illegal otherworld alien. Leslie's efforts to keep her secrets are in vain and, in an effort to prevent Simone from broadcasting what she knows to the entire world, she tries a final desperate gamble to ensure Simone's silence.
