This text provides a comprehensive and concise perspective on urban education. It gives a bird's-eye view on the roles of education policies, teachers (pre-service and in-service), curricula, principals, superintendents, and the performance of students in urban districts, urban schools, and urban classrooms. This text can be an asset in educational programs at institutions of higher learning in preparing educators for the classrooms and other areas in education. The purpose of this text is to encourage educational stakeholders to make it mandatory that pre-service and in-service teachers be trained and equipped with the skills needed to make them efficient in urban classrooms. While many teachers are attracted to urban schools because of the incentives provided, the attrition rate is still high. Many researchers and scholars attribute this attrition height to the insurmountable challenges faced by teachers in these urban settings (Milner & Lomotey, 2014; Darling-Hammond et al., 2017). Challenges, such as classroom management, student behavior, large class size, and the cost of living are some of these teachers have to deal with on a daily basis, most of which, according to researchers, have to do with the unpreparedness of pre-service and in-service teachers to be effective and efficient in the classroom (Milner & Lomotey, 2014). This lack of being equipped creates tremendous stress and pressure for these teachers causing them not to only quit the school, rather, quit the teaching profession for other careers. I hope this text can be a help to educators and other stakeholders in education and that it serves as an antidote to the teacher attrition crisis.
