The photographic record of Black Cambridge, Maryland, 1884 to 1951: 281 photographs from the families, churches, and schools of Pine Street and Dorchester County.

For nearly seventy years Pine Street was the heart of African-American life in Cambridge, Maryland, on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Its churches, schools, barbershops, bakeries, lodges, dance halls, and ballfields held a community that built its own institutions in the decades between Reconstruction and the modern civil rights movement. Up Pine Street is that community's photograph album, assembled by David Henry from family collections, church records, school archives, and private albums, many never before published.
