What is fibromyalgia syndrome? How does it differ from chronic fatigue syndrome? When was it first recognised and why is it a syndrome? Do all people experience the same symptoms. What conditions are associated with FMS and how can a combination of substances produced by the immune system work together to produce such a diversity of symptoms? The author explores the science behind FMS and shows how the symptoms can be perpetuated resulting in a condition which impacts greatly on the sufferer's life. Just as importantly, the author explains why painkillers, in themselves will not work on the underlying cause of this syndrome. Finally, she explains why CFS and FMS are not all in the mind but very real conditions which need to be taken more seriously.
A new chapter on CMA which is ubiquitous in food, medicines and pharmaceuticals has recently been added since research shows this has been associated with FMS.
