The Triad of the Gaze is the second volume of The Subtle Mirror, following The Horizon of the Gaze.
Where the first volume approached the image through presence, distance, and contemporary visual culture, this book turns toward the structure of looking itself.
It brings together two movements.
First, The Perched Gaze: a fragmentary and poetic meditation on the origin of a gaze that does not seize, consume, or possess. A gaze held at a distance. A gaze that waits. A gaze that learns to see without reducing what appears before it.
Second, The Triad of the Gaze: an operative theory of looking built around three structural functions:
the Other-Image - what addresses us before we fully see;
the Second Presence - what maintains the interval and prevents relation from collapsing;
the Inverted Double - what returns, reverses, and transforms meaning without closing it.
This triad is not a typology, nor a symbolic system in the usual sense. It is a dynamic structure: a way of understanding how images look back, how presence is sustained, and how meaning is displaced through the act of seeing.
Drawing on literature, visual semiotics, psychoanalytic thought, and the philosophy of the image, The Triad of the Gaze proposes a rigorous but deeply personal approach to the visible.
