Trends in the Demand for Primary Education in Cameroon arises from a World Bank study that analyzed the evolution of the demand for primary education in Cameroon from 1980-1995. Martin E. Amin examines the influences of economic, cultural, religious, and climatic differences between regions of Cameroon. The urban schools exhibited higher pass, completion, and participation rates in official examinations, along with lower repetitions in urban schools than in rural schools. Also, parental demand for education varied with education, marital status, religion, income, and adherence to traditional beliefs. He found that the decreasing trend in the financing of primary education negatively impacts the supply of educational services and consequently the demand for primary education. Amin provides a detailed information source on the demand for primary education in Cameroon, identifying methodology for determining the nature of primary education. He also assesses the present state of that demand during the current economic crisis that has decreased enrollment, increased the demand for public schools over private schools, and led to a greater percentage of enrollment for boys than girls.
