Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Social Work, grade: A, Tribhuvan University, course: Master's in Social Work, language: English, abstract: This research builds on the field work based in Karkigaun, Nuwakot district of Nepal aims at providing a description of the impact of 2015 Nepal earthquake to vulnerable families. It presents the problems that earthquake disaster can create to the vulnerable families along with the hardships and worries such families face while accessing the disaster services and reconstruction programs in a developing country like Nepal. The study has employed qualitative methodological approach for data collection and analysis. An attempt has been made to provide social work perspectives to disaster since there is a significant gap in literature in the field even though disaster management cycle is relevant to social work in many important ways. In order to bridge the gap to the certain level, the research outlines the potential ten steps (roles) that social workers can play during the phase of disaster response and disaster recovery in Nepal in relation to the international disaster social work discussions based on the primary research findings. The four sets of data including two major government publications (i) post disaster needs assessment (2015) ii) post disaster recovery framework (2016) iii) empirical data collected from the field and iv) available disaster social work literature are taken as unit of analysis of the study. The aim of the study is to obtain information on the role of social work in disasters management in Nepal and to conceptualize disaster social work to understand it better.
