To date, there has been a lack of comprehensive teaching methodology for midwifery students and midwives in vocational training. This study aims to close that gap. Existing work on the competence profile of midwives and an initial subject-specific teaching approach for midwifery aimed at developing solidarity skills are taken up, expanded and combined into an organic model together with national and international competence profiles. The core of the model is made up of the competences that are to be achieved. A suitable subject-specific teaching approach ensures that the competence requirements are implemented and guarantees high-quality teaching and practice. The subject-specific didactic goals are achieved through communication- and action-oriented didactics. Third learning location/skill lab, training & transfer (LTT), LabSkills, reflection in + on action, counselling, coaching and mentoring have proven to be beneficial intervention techniques in the reflection and evaluation process. The legal areas of responsibility, learning motivation and the personalities of all those involved are also taken into account. Naturally, the focus of interest is on the mother, child(ren) and their living environments.
