The Storyteller of the City does not live in the City, never. He was born in the City, yes. He confesses that he grew up in the City and worked in the City and that this is why he understands the City. All true, but years ago he left the City to live in the Country, and this shift and adjustment has influenced the way he looks back upon the City. The stories that the Storyteller of the City tells are of critical import to everyone living in the City and everyone living in the Country-stories like The Keepers of the Picture, The Watchers of the Space, The Howlers and Ponderers of the Heavens, The Kissing Birds,
The Sweet Talkers, The Dancers of All the Time, The Incurable Urban Laughter, The Carriers of the Infant Future, and another half more. Yes, even Country Folk need to know what is going on in the City. Why, because the City is well on its way to the Country. If something is not done in the Country about this unchecked City expansionism, outright City imperialism, there will soon be only one big City, no Country remaining. The Storyteller of the City has had to struggle to communicate this story and thus has drawn on some of the best of literature about the City and the Country to help him. The story is therefore very literary and serious. Children can read and understand it, it is good that they do, but the story is not least for adults.
