El Libro de Rut, a diferencia de los demás libros del Tanakh, no se llama en realidad SEFER (ספר) - libro - sino MEGUILAH (מגילה) - rollo. Este nombre se da también a otros cuatro libros de las Escrituras, a saber: Meguilat Ester, Meguilat Shir HaShirim (Cantar de los Cantares), Meguilat Kohelet (Eclesiastés) y Meguilat Eichah (Lamentaciones). Las Meguilot, o rollos, se componen de cinco libros relativamente breves que forman parte de un todo dentro de las tradiciones del Pueblo de Israel. Estos cinco libros contenidos en el K'TUVIM del Tanakh conforman un compendio de escritos de extrema importancia, tanto moral como espiritual.
Al igual que las Meguilot, la Torah se compone de cinco libros. Es en las Meguilot donde se enseñan y exponen de forma práctica las enseñanzas más místicas de la Torah. Por ello, la Gemara afirma que una persona puede dejar de lado el estudio de la Torah durante un tiempo para estudiar las Meguilot. Esto demuestra que las Meguilot son valiosas e importantes. La Torah, en cierto modo, para ser comprendida en su totalidad, exige el estudio de esos rollos y, por esta razón, el estudio de las Meguilot es tan meritorio como la dedicación al estudio de la Torah misma. Y por qué ambos deben caminar juntos? A diferencia de lo que se ve en los relatos de la Torah, donde Hashem se manifiesta y opera en Su mundo abiertamente, en las Meguilot vemos las mismas obras y milagros divinos de una manera más oculta. La forma en que Hashem se manifiesta en las Meguilot, donde los ojos humanos y la racionalidad no son capaces de percibirlo durante el proceso, es la misma forma en que experimentamos a Hashem en nuestras vidas diariamente. Esta simple diferencia hace que las Meguilot estén mucho más conectadas con nuestra realidad de vida y nuestro entendimiento humano. En la realidad en que vivimos, ya no vemos a Hashem actuando de la manera en que lo hacía en la época de la Torah. Las Meguilot, a diferencia de la Torah, son capaces de conectarnos con los mundos espirituales y elevar nuestro entendimiento para que podamos construir una relación más íntima con Hashem dentro de la realidad en la que vivimos. Las Meguilot son capaces de esta hazaña con mayor maestría que la Torah misma, y por qué? Porque en las Meguilot Hashem trabaja de la misma manera que trabaja en las coincidencias de la vida, en lo oculto y dentro de las improbabilidades humanas.
SHA'REI MEGUILAH - EL LIBRO DE RUT elucida las palabras divinas del Libro de Rut de un modo místico y espiritual, volviendo siempre sus enseñanzas hacia el lado del comportamiento humano. Esta obra sigue la forma rabínica de elucidar las Escrituras.
