Das Buch Rut wird im Gegensatz zu den anderen Büchern des Tanakh nicht als SEFER (ספר) - Buch - bezeichnet, sondern als Meguilah (מגילה) - Schriftrolle. Dieser Name wird auch vier anderen Büchern in der Heiligen Schrift gegeben, nämlich: Meguilat Esther, Meguilat Shir HaShirim (Hohelied), Meguilat Kohelet (Prediger) und Meguilat Eichah (Klagelieder). Die Meguilot, oder Schriftrollen, bestehen aus fünf relativ kurzen Büchern, die Teil eines Ganzen innerhalb der Traditionen des Volkes Israel sind. Diese fünf Bücher, die im K'TUVIM des Tanakh enthalten sind, bilden ein Kompendium von Schriften, die sowohl moralisch als auch spirituell äu erst wichtig sind.
Genauso wie die Meguilot aus fünf Büchern bestehen, besteht auch die Torah aus fünf Büchern. In den Meguilot werden die eher mystischen Lehren der Torah gelehrt und auf praktische Art und Weise dargelegt. Deshalb sagt die Gemara, dass man das Studium der Torah für eine Weile beiseite legen kann, um die Meguilot zu studieren. Das zeigt, wie wertvoll und wichtig die Meguilot sind. Um die Torah vollständig zu verstehen, muss man diese Schriftrollen studieren, und deshalb ist das Studium der Meguilot genauso verdienstvoll wie das Studium der Torah selbst. Und warum müssen beide Seite an Seite gehen? Im Gegensatz zu den Berichten in der Torah, in denen sich Hashem offen zeigt und in seiner Welt handelt, sehen wir in den Meguilot dieselben göttlichen Taten und Wunder auf eine verborgenere Art und Weise. Die Art und Weise, wie Hashem sich in der Meguilot offenbart, ohne dass menschliche Augen und Vernunft ihn dabei wahrnehmen können, ist die gleiche Art und Weise, wie wir Hashem in unserem Leben täglich erleben. Durch diesen einfachen Unterschied ist der Meguilot viel stärker mit unserer Lebenswirklichkeit und unserem menschlichen Verständnis verbunden. In der Realität, in der wir leben, sehen wir Hashem nicht mehr so handeln, wie er es zur Zeit der Torah tat. Anders als die Torah sind die Meguilot in der Lage, uns mit den spirituellen Welten zu verbinden und unser Verständnis zu erweitern, damit wir in unserer Lebenswirklichkeit eine engere Beziehung zu Hashem aufbauen können. Die Meguilot beherrschen dieses Kunststück besser als die Torah selbst, und warum? Weil Hashem in den Meguilot auf die gleiche Weise wirkt wie in den Zufällen des Lebens, im Verborgenen und in den menschlichen Unwahrscheinlichkeiten.
SHA'REI MEGUILAH - DAS BUCH RUT erhellt die göttlichen Worte des Buches Rut auf mystische und spirituelle Weise, indem es die Lehren stets auf die menschliche Verhaltensseite ausrichtet. Dieses Werk folgt der rabbinischen Art und Weise, die Heilige Schrift zu erläutern.
