Islam is a monotheistic, Abrahamic faith. It is fundamentally a teaching of reconciliation. Yet ulama engaged by hawkish rulers reinvented it as a teaching of war to further the expansionary aspirations of their rulers. Islamism resulted from the weaponization of revelation. The ulama reinvented Islam as political Islam, a perpetual war between the dar al-Islam and the dar-al-harb driven by the desire to establish a paradise on earth in the form of caliphate. In the process they justified despotism and violations of personal rights. Islamism emerged as the Muslim Brotherhood, inspired by a jurisprudence of terror, propounded by wayward preachers that treat acts of terror as martyrdom, earning reward in the hereafter. The umma is being deceived by mercenary scholarship. Islam is perceived as a teaching of war due to the rulings of preachers of terror and the crimes of persons that follow them. These persons perpetrate grief and threaten security. They require being restrained. There could be no tolerance for terrorism. Interestingly, we are assured that Islam has nothing to do with terrorism. If by Islam we mean the teaching of the Book of Allah, we agree. But if Islam also encompasses traditions and rulings of wayward preachers, specifically those that treat acts of terror martyrdom we beg to differ. The umma used to be prominent. At present, it is struggling. Muslims at present are protected by the United States military. Muslims became a protected people. Allah turned the tables on the umma. Why? What went wrong? The Book of Allah teaches that He never changes the condition of an umma until it changes what is inside itself (13:11). The umma used to follow the Book of Allah. However, in a bizarre turn of events, the umma turned from the Book of Allah to tradition, treating is as revelation, as a partner and even a part of the Book of Allah. The umma suffered setbacks because it turned from revelation to the traditions of the forefathers. The turn was a reorientation from a revelation-centric paradigm to a tradition-centric paradigm. The turn from revelation to tradition was triggered by efforts of hawkish rulers to find a justification for wars of aggression and repression, prohibited in revelation. Traditions were recorded at the behest of rulers. No branch of research was protected from political pressure. Research was politicized, turning into political propaganda. Knowledge was politicized. Even al-Ghazali railed against the Shia Fatimids of Egypt at the request of Nizam al-Mulk. The transformation of the teaching of reconciliation into a teaching of confrontation was enabled by the weaponization of exegesis and jurisprudence. This process was enabled by refraining from the use of reason in exegesis and jurisprudence. This rendered the traditional knowledge of revelation irrational. This enabled flawed perceptions and practices unwarranted by revelation to corrupt both exegesis and jurisprudence. Unwarranted practices encompass the abrogation of the verses of reconciliation by the verses of the sword (9:5 and 9:29). Problematic perceptions encompass the view that revelation is in parts unclear, incomplete and even contradictory. All these perceptions reject what revelation teaches about itself. To reject any verse of the Quran is to perpetrate kufr in that verse. Thus, traditionalist exegesis rests upon kufr of all verses that teach that the Book of Allah is clear, fully detailed and free of contradictions. These errors enabled hawkish clerics to treat unlawful wars of aggressions as lawful. These errors also enabled embedding death penalties for adultery, blasphemy, and apostasy into penal law. These errors result in miscarriages of justice. The utilization of faulty methodology resulted in the corruption of the knowledge of revelation. The errors also paved the way for the emergence of authoritarianism and arbitrary rule.
