Islam used to preeminent but at present is on the defensive. There is Islamophobia. What explains these dramatic changes?
The Book of Allah states that Allah never changes the condition of people until they change what is inside them. (Quran, 13:11) Was there a change in Muslims? There was a change for the better when people embraced the Book of Allah. There was a change for the worse when they embraced the traditions of the predecessors. Muslims became prominent when they embraced the Book of Allah. They became worldly when they turned from the revelation to tradition. The turn from revelation to tradition was an epic change. Transmitters of traditions became authorities. There was an encroachment upon tauhid. The purity of the faith was compromised. In turning from revelation to tradition, the umma drifted from the Book of Allah. The umma became perplexed. Sectarianism - propelled by attachment to different traditions - proliferated. Renewal requires a return to revelation. This requires the de-sacralization of tradition, its subordination to revelation, and the rehabilitation and reengagement of reason. Scholarship was compromised by hawkish ulama, who provided their rulers with rendition of Islam to justify unlawful wars of aggression. It will be necessary to treat tradition as a part of the past rather than as part of revelation. The penal code also requires rehabilitation. For the penal code was also compromised by treating tradition as a root of the law, even to abrogate and replace parts of revelation. The teaching of abrogation enabled extensive tampering with and the knowledge of revelation. The abrogation and replacement of revealed laws was an expression of juristic shirk. Treating tradition as a part of revelation is an expression of scriptural shirk. Islamist exegesis and jurisprudence require being purified of these expressions of shirk. It is necessary to reiterate and affirm the preeminence of revelation in relation to all traditions, especially those treated as roots of legislation. Militant ulama weaponized the epistemology of revelation to reinterpret Islam as a teaching of war rather than a teaching of reconciliation. Islamists reinvented Islam as Islamism. The politicization of Islam brought grief to the umma as well as to non-Muslims. Islamists place the umma at risk of retaliation and reprisals by aggrieved parties. As misused by Islamist ulama, exegesis and jurisprudence became weapons of mass deception and political propaganda. It is necessary to restore to scholarship its independence from political and economic influence. As it requires ceasing to believe in a swathe of verses of the Book of Allah, the doctrine of abrogation is a beckoning to kufr. It is necessary to reject the perceptions according to which the Book of Allah is in parts unclear, insufficiently detailed and contradictory. It also necessary to reject the perception the tradition clarifies and details revelation. It is necessary to treat the Book of Allah as it presents itself: clear, fully detailed and consistent. The wars in which the umma became embroiled due to the teaching of militant ulama brought a pushback and eventual defeats. Traditions that teach that the blood of the kafir is halal for the believer also require being rejected, as they provide a justification for the perpetration of crime and terrorism. Ulama that propagate acts if terrorism as martyrdom operations require being brought to justice and tried for inciting Muslims to perpetrate crimes. All movements that promote violence require being blacklisted and banned. The idea that the world is separated into dar al-IsIam and dar al-harb must be rejected. The teaching of aggressive jihad or jihad al-talab also requires being rejected. Universities and educational institutions that teach extremism require being reprimanded and reformed. Courses in critical thinking require being introduced in Muslim institutions of learning.
