Pero cuando las fronteras coloniales, la traición polÃtica y unas elecciones fraudulentas desatan una guerra civil, su paraÃso se desmorona de la noche a la mañana.
Sus padres se enfrentan a una decisión imposible:
salvar a los niños, aunque no puedan salvarse a sà mismos.
Guiados por la Dra. Anya, una -humanitaria judÃa alemana cuya familia sobrevivió al Holocausto, los niños huyen a través de desiertos, campos de refugiados y alta mar. En el camino, se encuentran con soldados divididos entre el deber y la conciencia, extraños que se convierten en protectores y la brutal maquinaria de las fronteras que decide quién vive y quién cae en el olvido.
Rescatados cerca de Tenerife y adoptados por familias españolas, los ocho niños crecen dispersos por todo el mundo. Sin embargo, un hilo invisible los une: un vÃnculo ancestral y sin fronteras que se resiste a romperse.
Décadas después, ya adultos, marcados por el exilio, la resiliencia y la memoria, se alzan como sanadores, artistas, diplomáticos y humanitarios. Y cuando Ada, la mayor, los encuentra a todos de nuevo, su reencuentro se convierte en algo más que un regreso a casa: se transforma en un movimiento.
