Diabetes mellitus is related to the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), as well as damage to different tissues and organ systems. In contrast, antioxidants, such as NAC, can be used to modulate and prevent these aggressions. However, in autoimmune hyperglycemic conditions, NAC appears to potentiate the damage caused by diabetes. Thus, combination with other therapies is necessary and may allow the antioxidant action of NAC, together with the blocking of the harmful effects of diabetes. In addition, physical exercise can also improve the body's antioxidant defense, leading to cellular homeostasis. Thus, this book will demonstrate the effects of NAC, combined with antibody therapy and physical exercise, in order to recover salivary organs in experimental hyperglycemic conditions.
