A common viral infection that mostly affects the respiratory system, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is more frequent in newborns and young children. An overview of RSV in children is given here:

When an infected person coughs or sneezes, respiratory droplets are released into the air, making RSV extremely contagious. Additionally, it can be acquired by coming into contact with infected surfaces.
Time of Year:
Seasonal epidemics of RSV infections are common, usually occurring in the fall and winter. Widespread outbreaks of the virus can occur in homes, schools, and childcare facilities.
Signs:
