I hail from a land of three warring tribes, a place where agitations often cloud the air. Most of these sentiments are laughable, yet they carry a weight that sparked a fire in me to look backward. To understand the present, I had to travel through the flashbacks of ancient kingdoms-places where tribal sentiments and the absolute power of the black art once ruled.
The journey to write the Reign of Magic series was not one of comfort. It was a spiritual quest. I made consultations that led me into the smelling chambers of juju men, where littered relics and thrown libations decorated the floor. As I listened to their bonding incantations, I learned one haunting fact: the spirit of man is capable of foxy, terrifying things.
The nights were a battlefield. I fought off the attacks of sleep and the chilling cold that seeped into my veins, all while mosquitoes sought to suck the vital liquid from my body. In the darkest hours, I survived on the worst bitter kola of my life, coughing until dawn, my mind freezing in a way that reminded me of King Mustapha's sightless world. Through that sweat and cold, I completed the journey. Five books were born.
