Deceptive Vows is a powerful fictional novel based on Gary's play entitled, Until Death Do Us Part. Gary wrote, directed and acted in the play, which was done in Oakland, California 2000 and 2001. Patricia is in prison for killing her abusive husband Andre. As part of her rehabilitation, she must tell her story in a state mandated group therapy session, with other inmates who have killed their husbands. When she tells her story we flash back into the horrible events which led her to kill him. The novel deals with the issue of domestic violence and can be instrumental in saving lives. It is on the level of a Fatal Attraction, Burning Bed or Lifetime-type drama. A portion of the proceeds from this novel will be donated to a local domestic violence organization here in Atlanta.
