Maybe a video course you got eleven lessons into. Maybe a thousand-page book with a receipt still marking page 64. The material was fine. The method was not.
People quit Python in four predictable places: the install, the first red error message, the second week, and the first empty file. This book is built around those four, not around a list of language features.
It tracks what you spend. It grows by exactly one feature per chapter, so the Python arrives only when your program needs it. Chapter 3 teaches variables because the tracker has to remember an amount. Chapter 7 teaches files because it has to survive a reboot.
By the end you have about a hundred lines of real software that saves your data, refuses to crash when you mistype, and runs on your own machine. Not an exercise. A thing you use.
And you break it on purposeOnce per chapter you deliberately wreck your own code and read what Python says back. Delete a quote mark. Misspell a variable. Feed it a word where it wants a number.
This is the part nobody teaches, and it is the part that decides whether you are still doing this in March. Error messages are the only place where the computer tells you exactly what is wrong, in writing, for free, and beginners are the only group that does not read them.
