Após a publicação de *A Theory of Justice*, de John Rawls, em 1971, o meio intelectual anglo-saxónico tornou-se o ponto de encontro de uma evidente efervescência da filosofia polÃtica e moral, que atraiu a atenção de alguns filósofos contemporâneos que, por sua vez, adotaram uma abordagem que valorizou plenamente esta nova filosofia, cuja questão principal é a forma como se pode conceber a justiça. Esta problemática preparou o terreno para retomar novos horizontes de reflexões polémicas entre liberais e comunitaristas. O nosso trabalho trará novos esclarecimentos sobre um dos eixos fundamentais desta recente conceção de justiça, analisando a reflexão de uma figura eminente da corrente comunitarista, MacIntyre, que criticou inicialmente as teorias liberais da justiça fundadas por Rawls e Nozick; depois de que propôs uma nova aceção da justiça nas suas duas obras-primas, After Virtue e Whose Justice? Which Rationality?
