Ormond is the story of the fall into poverty of the Dudley family. After a trusted employee embezzles large sums of money and leaves them with an impossible debt, the Dudley family are forced to move to Philadelphia, where they endure the demise of their mother, a disastrous epidemic, and the travails of winter. That is, until Ormond comes into their lives. Charles Brockden Brown (1771-1810) an American historian and novelist, widely considered by scholars to be one of the greatest American novelists.
