At the far southern end of the Florida peninsula, lay an area steeped in a plethora of unsolved mysteries. The marshy swampland with its mystical watery beauty, had long been home to alligators, crocodiles, many different types of snakes, birds and tropical wildlife that you don't normally see in any other part of the United States.
For many years The Glades, as some called it, had been home to some very old, towering Cypress trees that kept the ecology there balanced. If you happened to travel along the Tamiami Trail into the wilderness of Big Cypress National Preserve, you would likely find gators sunbathing on the banks of the canals, as those reptiles, meaning Alligators and Crocodiles, reigned supreme in those swampy waters. People needed to be particularly careful along the 25-mile Loop Road that trails off the main highway leading you deep into the Everglades.
