Neepin Auger's Discovering People uses colourful illustrations and familiar social concepts to introduce very young children to words for people in three languages. English, French and Plains Cree appear together, allowing children and adults to make direct connections between images, relationships and vocabulary.
The book gives Indigenous-language learning the same visual space as two widely used Canadian languages and includes pronunciation support for caregivers and educators who may be new to Plains Cree. The people and family focus makes the vocabulary easy to connect with everyday life, while the sturdy board-book format supports repeated handling and shared reading.
