An introduction to grammar, consisting of 46 short lessons presented in a logical way, beginning with the sentence and introducing the first two parts of speech: the noun and the verb. Each lesson follows the same pattern: sharing some essential information followed by a To be learnt section that summarizes the grammatical points just introduced and a series of Exercises. Some of the exercises ask the reader to supply a missing part. Others ask the reader to create sentences of his own, following the same pattern, or to locate similar ones in his reading. In due course the other parts of speech are introduced, including prepositions, adverbs, adjectives, and interjections. At the end of the book are stanzas from thirty-five different poems for students to say what they can about the words that are italicized.
