This book contains a translation the 'Mystical Theology' written by the fifth-century Neoplatonic Christian mystic Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite. He is the father of 'negative theology' and exerted great influence on Western thought, Catholicism as well as the Eastern Orthodox Church, but is also an inspiration for postmodern 'deconstruction'.

Negative theology is a way of speaking beyond all logical speech by logically going beyond logic. What exactly such speaking entails about that is a matter of great misunderstanding, precisely where one thinks one is following Dionysius.

Reading Dionysius himself and listening to what he has to say to us in his little tract 'Mystical theology' can solve or, on the contrary, increase all misunderstandings if one reads from the bias of what negative theology should be. Reading Dionysius himself is difficult, which is why this book contains two word-for-word explanations of 'Mystical Theology'.
