Twenty-two years ago, Alex Ward woke in a hospital with no memory of who he had been.
Now a child is missing - and Alex knows where to look.
He shouldn't.
When eleven-year-old Grace Nolan disappears from a quiet northern town, Alex walks past the obvious evidence and finds the one place the police should be searching. He cannot explain how.
Then other things begin coming back.
A road. A room. A camera angle.
Fragments connected to children who vanished more than twenty years ago.
DCI Mara Quinn has one rule: possibilities, not conclusions. But as every new clue leads closer to Alex, his wife and children are forced to confront the question he has spent twenty-two years avoiding.
What if the man helping to find a missing child is connected to the children who never came home?
The Man He Used to Be is a dark British psychological thriller about memory, identity, guilt - and whether becoming someone better can ever erase what came before.
