On 16 February 2022, Jared Bridegan was driving home through Jacksonville Beach, Florida, after dropping off his two older children. His two-year-old daughter was in the vehicle behind him.
A tire lay in the road.
Jared stopped.
Minutes later, he was dead.
What initially appeared to be a baffling roadside shooting developed into one of Florida's most closely watched murder investigations. Detectives followed surveillance footage, phone records, financial transactions, DNA evidence and the movements of a blue Ford F-150. Years later, arrests followed.
The Tire in the Road reconstructs the case from the beginning through the investigation, the prosecution of Mario Fernandez Saldana, and the still-unresolved proceedings involving Shanna Gardner and Henry Tenon.
Drawing on court records, law-enforcement documents, courtroom testimony and contemporary reporting, the book examines:
- the evidence surrounding the tire placed in the road
- the surveillance trail and the unidentified driver
- the alleged financial payments prosecutors presented at trial
- DNA recovered from the tire
- the unexplained gap in phone data
- thousands of browser deletions examined by investigators
- the missing murder weapon

- the pending cases that mean the story is not yet over
At its centre is Jared Bridegan: a father, husband, designer and builder whose life can easily disappear beneath years of legal argument.
This book does not ask the reader to accept a theory simply because investigators proposed it. It distinguishes evidence from allegation, conviction from accusation, and established fact from unanswered question.
