In 2012 author Drew Jacob set out to cross the United States with no money and no car. One night he found himself in a thunderstorm and took shelter in a tiny grove of trees. Alone, tired, sunburnt and thirsty, he did the only thing he could to pass the night: he began to write a story. That story became Lúnasa Days.
Lúnasa Days tells the tale of a similar, but much harder journey. It follows Bailey, a modern day magician who sells his spells for a living-but has lost faith in his powers. Wandering the Midwest in search of a purpose, Bailey stumbles on a farm town stricken by drought. He's given a home by a surprising cast of characters and begins to peddle his magic, only to find he's powerless to save the corn. The one person who understands his plight is Emily, a local girl that most people prefer to avoid. Together, the two will have to find a way to save the farms, and see if they can change their fate.
Drew Jacob depicts magic as if it's hiding just out of sight in our everyday world. He writes in a crisp, simple style, his characters bristling with belief and doubt. Lúnasa Days takes its place among the best of contemporary magical realism. It's a story you'll feel in your heart, and it will leave you wanting more.
