Some universities accept you. Obsidian Vanguard University judges you.
Eighteen-year-old Aaliyah Brooks thought receiving an invitation to one of the most secretive universities in the country would be the beginning of her future.
She had no idea it would lead her straight into her past.
Hidden beyond Roads that should not exist, Obsidian Vanguard University is an elite Black institution built on history, sacrifice, ancestral power, and secrets. Its obsidian halls are filled with brilliant students, dangerous traditions, Greek life, rivalries, supernatural training, and a legacy far older than the university itself.
At the center of it all stands the Dragon Heart.
Every incoming student must face it.
The Heart decides where they belong.
Verde. Flare. Tide. Solace.
And, under circumstances no one seems willing to explain, the mysterious silver-and-black Lux.
But there are whispers of another House.
One that does not appear in official introductions.
Noctis.
From Shadow, We Guard the Light.
When Aaliyah's own path pulls her deeper into OVU's hidden world, she begins to realize that the university did not simply invite her because of who she is.
It may have been waiting for her because of who came before her.
Students are awakening abilities connected to an ancient celestial force known as Vaelora. Old Roads remember things the university has forgotten. Faculty members carry secrets behind carefully controlled smiles. And somewhere beyond campus, the Black Eclipse Syndicate is searching for something OVU has protected for generations.
Then the Dragon Heart does something it should not be able to do.
A student's selection goes wrong.
A forbidden color appears.
And the first crack opens in everything OVU claims to understand about itself.
As friendships deepen, rivalries sharpen, attraction complicates loyalty, and the university's trials become increasingly dangerous, Aaliyah discovers that her family history is connected to OVU in ways no one prepared her for.
Someone knows who she really is.
Someone has been watching.
And someone inside the university may already belong to the enemy.
At Obsidian Vanguard, power is never free.
Protection always comes with a price.
And being chosen does not mean you're safe.
It means you've been noticed.
