The Love You Were Wired For is a book about why we repeat the relationship patterns that hurt us - and how to finally stop.
Knowing why you experience love the way you do is not enough not change it. Insight is not transformation. You can understand yourself completely and repeat the same relationship patterns for a decade, because understanding happens in the mind, and the pattern lives in the body. Your conscious mind learns. Your nervous system remembers. And when those two are in conflict, the nervous system always wins.
I know this because I lived it. I studied psychology. I started therapy at twenty-one. So, by my late twenties I could explain my own wiring better than most. Yet, in my early thirties, I walked into the same relationship for the fourth time. Different person, but the same architecture.
This book is about that gap, between knowing and changing. Because that is where most of us get stuck.
It moves through six parts, tracing the whole arc of a relationship pattern from the inside. Recognition: seeing the pattern clearly, and where it was first learned. Wiring: the science of why the familiar reads as safe even when the familiar is what hurt you. Breaking Point: the moment the cost of staying the same finally outweighs the fear of change. Grief: mourning the love you thought you had, and the version of yourself that kept reaching for it. Rewiring: the slow work of teaching a nervous system that peace is not the same as danger. And Becoming: who you are on the other side, when the old wiring no longer chooses for you.
It covers the neuroscience of attachment and why early love shapes adult love, the idea of secondary gain and the hidden reasons we stay in an unhealthy relationship, the difference between chemistry and compatibility, and why calm can feel like boredom to a body raised in chaos. And beyond the science, it keeps asking the question that psychology alone cannot answer - who do you become when you finally choose to experience love differently?
